I wanna be

I wanna be a folk singer from the 1960’s!  Pleeeeease??

I’ve always wanted to be like Joan Baez.  I read her autobiography once.  When she was in college she had long hair and never wore shoes, even in the winter.  She and her roommate would play guitar and sing together.  Then she started playing and singing in cafes, and then she became famous!  Then she met Bob Dylan and they fell in love and he tagged along at her concerts and then he became famous too!  Why were the 60’s so magical like that?

I love her voice and I like to sing along with her music.  It’s at just the right pitch for me to sing.

Others I love (60’s and 70’s):

Bob Dylan
Pete Seeger
Arlo Guthrie
Peter, Paul, and Mary
Richard and Mimi
Joni Mitchell
Simon & Garfunkel
Neil Young (Crosby, Stills & Nash, too)
James Taylor
Cat Stevens

Music

The music I’ve been listening to for the past several months has been really disjointed and different. I’m not satisfied with the music I used to listen to in my high school/freshman year days, with a few exceptions, like The Beatles. However, even they are listened to differently, since I am now more inclined to listen to their pre-Rubber Soul albums.

Music I like lately:

My Best of George Harrison record. This record has a hideous cover: pink and teal, obviously from somewhere during that decade of horrid color combos. The music is fabulous, and includes songs that George wrote both with and without the Beatles. It starts with “Something” and goes on to end with “What is Life” and “Bangladesh” and such.

Cowboy Bebop soundtracks. I love this music, especially the Japanese songs and the harmonica blues. Those soulful saxophone songs, though….I love them, but, as Linda once said, “Don’t play those songs! They makes me want to lead a bad lifestyle, like Faye!” Yep, those songs make me wish I were sitting alone in a dark, gloomy bar, smoking a cigarette, clutching a glass of something, brooding and wondering how my life turned out so depressing. So I usually just stick to the songs that remind me of Spike and spaceships or Ed and mushrooms and things like that.

I’ve also been hankering for a little punk, but only in the form of the most basic Clash songs: Police and Thieves, London Calling, Should I Stay or Should I Go? ….and also the Who. I’ve been hankering for them, but the only songs I have are from a mix tape that Rita made for me years ago. Well, and Tommy. But I’m getting a little tired of Tommy and want some of their more basic songs.

I also really love it when the few Disney songs come up on my Ipod, and also a few really weird dance tunes.

The things I skip when they come up on my Ipod:

Modest Mouse, Wilco, Bright Eyes (UGH! Can’t stand it!), any Radiohead besides a few select songs, basically almost any music that came out when I was in high school, especially if it is whiney or has been over-played to my ears. all that music that I once loved….

What happened?
