Hey thanks for the tips! Just today I got around to finding a cool pattern, a cute skirt and halter top, my mom had left over from the 70's. I love those vintage patterns so much more compared to some of the newer ones I saw at the fabric store. thanks agian lady.

Chloe, I learned from my mom and grandma, but lots of people learn by themselves! For a first project I would suggest doing a skirt from a pattern that says "easy" or "quick". Most skirts are pretty simple, and great for beginners. Be sure to get a pattern that you actually like, and awesome fabric! That will make it more fun. If you buy a pattern, look for "Simplicity New Look," they are always $4, and have lots of neat styles, while most patterns are $12 or more. Also, craftster.org has some great tutorials and inspiration.

Hi Aleatha, I love the colors of that dress! I got a sewing machine for a high school graduation present but I havent really had time to use it, until this summer when I really want to start making some clothes! I was just wondering if you taught yourself to sew? Thats what I was thinking of doing, but just wanted to hear what you thought about it. What do you recomend as an easy first project?

The dress does look great, although the fact that tissue paper stabilized it just emphasizes how hard to sew it really is, which just makes the fact that it looks great even better.

I had had a lot of people mention that the first year was really hard, and a big adjustment, but I really enjoyed my first year in marriage to Avram (and subsequent years of course). Of course, we hard a hard dating and engagement period, so after that actually being committed to each other and on the same continent seemed like a breeze of a relationship. (My fault on both points, by the way).
